My Genre: Indie Rock Song Analysis 1






Twenty One Pilots - Stressed Out
Camerawork:
  • 1:16 - Close ups- To show the artist singing, making the audience focus on him.
  • 0:10 - Low angle shots- When he rides in on his bike, what young people usually get up to.
  • 0:46 - Mid Shot- When he gets to his mates house, it is used to show us what they are doing, e.g the handshake.
  • 2:37 - Long shot- Showing the audience the whole shot.
  • 0:10 - Tracking shot - Follows the artist when on the bike, makes the audience focus on him.
Editing:
  • 2:29 - White backdrop- Greenscreen is used of a white background to show us it is different from the rest of the video, it is in their heads.
  • 3:21 - Black background/Red eyes- Makes us focus on the artist singing, as he is the only thing in the shot.
  • 2:00 - Cuts to the beat so the video matches the lyrics, but also quickens up the narrative.
  • 2:15 - Fast paced editing - A lot of shots in a short space of time, keeps with the beat of the music.
Mise-en-scene:
  • 0:01 - Location- It is set in a neighbourhood which they are going round on their bikes, meeting the other members of th band.
  • 0:56 - Costume- Usual clothing which rock/young artists wear, mostly black. Red hat could represent danger/anger.
  • 1:36 - Props- Bikes, musical instruments etc shows us its the rock genre.
  • 1:20 - Narrative- What young people get up to, e.g going round their mates house, riding their bikes round the neighbourhood etc.
  • 3:28 - Low key lighting - Makes the red hat and eyes stand out on the artist, makes us focus on him singing. 
  • 2:05 - High key lighting - Relaxed atmosphere when in their mates bedroom, making music.
  • 1:23 - Subtitles- Tell us more about the narrative, so the audience knows whats going on.
  • 3:05 - Colour scheme - Mainly black and dominant red colours.
